Your age and perceived challenges will determine how we deliver your autism diagnostic assessment to prove or disprove the presence of the condition. Each person is individual and as such our assessments are tailored to your specific needs.

Initial Referral and Registration

Before we can offer you an Autism (ASD) assessment we need you to complete an initial referral. Once submitted a Case Manager will arrange to call you at a convenient time to discuss your referral and offer you an appointment.

Initial Consultation

The initial stage is a consultation with one of our psychologists who has experience of autism spectrum, as well as a wealth of other conditions, so that you can share your concerns and reasons for considering an autism diagnostic assessment.

It is essential that we determine whether a diagnostic assessment is appropriate as many other conditions have similar symptoms or presentations.

Prior to your appointment you will receive an online screening tool to complete (via email). This explores the severity of social impairment within the autism spectrum and differentiates it from that which occurs in other disorders.

Assessment

The next stage will be your assessment which may be completed over several appointments depending on what we determine is required. The assessments will be completed at a pace that is comfortable for you.

During your appointments it will be necessary for us to:

  • Gather a full personal history, focusing on developmental and behavioural features. The Autism Diagnostic Interview Revised (ADIR) for those aged 22 years and younger is the most appropriate tool to fully consider a young persons developmental history.

  • For those aged over 22 we use the Monteiro Interview Guidelines for Diagnosing the Autism Spectrum (MIGDAS).

  • Both the ADIR and MIGDAS are adminstered with parents / guardians / caregivers and teachers.

  • We will adminster the Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule 2 (ADOS-2) with all clients.

  • Additional assessments may have been recommended in your post consultation letter and will depend on your individual circumstances. These may include input from Speech and Language or other professionals we identify as being necessary.

We now provide assessments in Oxfordshire, Milton Keynes, Manchester, Brighton, Bristol and Southampton
